Freedom Of Speech

Based on the 800 year anniversary of The Magna Carta, Knowing your rights & issues of social unrest.

 The magna carter was created in 1215 and signed by King John in Runnymede, Surrey, England. The Mgana Carter promotes justice stating that noone, not even the king, is above the law, as well as a right to a fair trial and Freedom of Speech. it has infleunced English law up until today and has even went on to inspire the American Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

 

'Freedom Of Speech' is a 'Peoples Army' Spoken Word/Rap Workshop based on researching the 800 year anniversary of 'The Magna Carta'. 10 young people were mentored by Amy True & Logic along with Guest speaker Saddiq Khan owner of D'Gaf, who studied law and the Magna Carta along with a trip to the British Library to view the Exhibition they are holding. 

 

The workshops will be covering a variety of sessions such as; 

"Freedom of speech Online" what you can say on twitter and what you "should" be allowed to say on social media. How this can affect young people voicing opinions and how postings on social media can affect peoples lives.

 

"Mightier than the sword".  Discussions around the power of words and media and how this can influence a nation, a generation or a community. Using a series of examples throughout history and bringing it right up to date with responses to the current Refugee Crisis.

 

Other sessions will be more creative; "Vocab Lab" where Amy and logic will put the young people through their lyrical paces, with word association games, stretching their language and challenging their descriptive skills.
